Twichell's Church, Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, has a strong interest in its famous first pastor, following his lead in its work in the city today. The church helped fund the biography with a seed grant and a gift to aid with production, as well as providing moral support and access to important archival material. A few of the author's speeches and articles appear on the church's site.

The Chinese Educational Mission, the first organized program under which Chinese students studied overseas, ran from 1871 to 1882 and was based in Hartford.
